Why No Insurance?
I do not accept insurance for care provided. All services are provided on a
sliding scale, cash-only basis (checks are accepted).
Filing for insurance reimbursement usually requires a significant breach of client confidentiality. I would be required to submit documentation such as an official client diagnosis ongoing progress reports, treatment plans, etc. Such information requires that a good deal of your personal information be revealed, which then becomes part of your permanent medical record. This is undesireable for many reasons, including possibly effecting insurance rates, future benefits, and even legal proceedings. However, most importantly, it forces me to label you, prematurely drives and limits decisions about treatment, and forces me to spend hours meeting paperwork and regulatory requirements that drive up your fees and do nothing to enhance your therapy.
I adhere to my profession's
code of ethics with a whole heart. I encourage all counseling clients (of any practice) to familiarize themselves with the ethics governing our profession. They have been developed to protect and safeguard the trust you put in us as your therapists. We recognize that participating in therapy places clients in a vulnerable position. Know and understand what you should expect from an ethical counselor. Remember, your well-being is our first responsibility.
